Inspired by the cherry blossoms down my street in Astoria, with their pink flowers that only last a week, this is a sleeveless top, that can also be worn as a vest, and if knitted with cotton yarn, it’s a great spring and summer garment.
I started knitting this top months ago, and didn’t quite finish it until the quarantine in New York started. It now is the most worn item in my closet.
Design
The pattern construction is quite simple, built knit bottom up, in one piece, in a simple ribbing pattern, with decreases for shaping the neck and the sleeves. The shoulders are finished using Kitchener stitch. The neck ribbing is knit separately and then sewn together.
This makes this too very fast to make and easy to change the length of it and try it on as you go (I’m a big fan of trying garments while I’m making them!)
I worked very hard to make sure this pattern is available in a wide range of sizes and make it as inclusive as possible. I recommend you use waist and bust measurements for deciding on size.
Top has a tight fitting of 2 inch negative ease. For a closer fit, I recommend using measurement halfway between waist and bust. For a looser fitting top, size up.

Yarn
You will need worsted weight, any kind. I recommend cotton for a lighter garment that can be worn during hot weather. I used Caron Cotton Cakes, and didn’t need more than one skein!
You can also use acrylic if that’s what you have in hand. Some of my amazing pattern testers did color work by changing between two colors every few rows.
