When I first started sewing with vintage patterns, I didn’t really know where to find them other than Etsy. I started with reproduction ones because I was a little scared of using the actual vintage ones. Part of it was my inexperience with sewing and that I was learning the concepts as I went.
But then I got gifted a few old patterns by a friend, I stopped making excuses, found the one that looked the “easiest” and started with that. And with that, I dived head first into vintage sewing. Since then, I’ve found all kinds of vintage sewing patterns. Patterns that are incomplete, patterns that are not accurate in their measurements, patterns that have basically no instructions, and everything in between. But the constant is that there is no lack of patterns out there. I’ve tried to expand my sources from just Etsy and I’ve found a few websites and other recommended places that are a treasure trove for the vintage sewist. It becomes a hunt from the start.
So I put together some of my recommendations for sewing vintage, and where to find these elusive patterns. Find below the video with tips and links to the spots mentioned. And enjoy the process!
If you would like to hear more about my journey into vintage sewing, what patterns I started with and hiccups I found on the way, I do also have a video with all those details.
